Mary Dillon, CEO of Ulta Beauty, will be recognized with the Sandra Taub Humanitarian Award for her extraordinary philanthropy and support of BCRF’s mission at the BCRF Symposium and Awards Luncheon on Oct. 25, 2018.
“Beauty is at its best when it’s giving back, and I am so proud of Ulta Beauty and the Ulta Beauty Charitable Foundation’s (UBCF) partnership with BCRF and how we inspire limitless possibilities for the 1 in 8 women diagnosed with breast cancer,” Dillon says.
“We’ve funded more than 440,000 hours of research to support BCRF’s quest to find a cure, and together, we will be the end of breast cancer.”
Ulta Beauty is one of BCRF’s largest corporate supporters, donating more than $22 million to advance lifesaving research since 2009. Their outstanding contribution is thanks in large part to their annual A Gorgeous Way to Give campaign in October and additional fundraising efforts throughout the year. In 2017, UBCF donated $4 million through the Ulta Beauty BCRF collection, Cut for a Cause, annual Golf Outing and Day of Beauty, drawings, sample sales, races, donations and more.
The Ulta Beauty Award supports leading scientists who have made lasting legacies on the future of breast cancer research. This year, Ulta Beauty will fund 19 researchers – 12 of whom are women – whose projects span the spectrum of breast cancer research – from how a healthy cell becomes cancerous, to understanding genetics and inherited risk, to developing new treatments.
A new Ulta Beauty Award recipient this year is Dr. Joseph Sparano, who led the landmark, BCRF-supported TAILORx study that showed that women with early stage breast cancer can avoid chemotherapy.
“This is a major finding,” BCRF Scientific Director Dr. Larry Norton said. “It means that maybe 100,000 women in the United States alone do not require chemotherapy.” Dr. Sparano will be a panelist at this year’s symposium alongside fellow Ulta Beauty Award recipient, Dr. Ben Ho Park, who championed and pioneered the use of liquid biopsies.
“We have more than 40,000 associates and millions of guests and partners who are passionate about our partnership with BCRF and committed to funding life changing research in support of a cure,” Dillon says. “That’s the power of beauty – the possibilities to make a difference are endless.”
