On Tuesday, June 9th, New York Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D) and Texas Congressman Pete Sessions (R) gathered at BCRF’s New York headquarters to announce the introduction of the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Act (HR- 3680). The bill has received tremendous bipartisan support and will direct the U.S. Treasury to issue special minted coins uniquely designed to symbolize the fight against breast cancer. The proceeds of the coin will provide an estimated $5 million dollars in funding to equally benefit BCRF and Susan G. Komen.
The announcement was made alongside Myra Biblowit, BCRF President and CEO, and Dr. Judith Salerno, President and CEO of Susan G. Komen. In addition, BCRF Advisory Board Member Roz Goldstein and BCRF's The Pink Agenda Board Member, Nicole Seagriff both shared their stories of survivorship, bringing to life the impetus behind our mission of advancing breast cancer research.
“The incredible bipartisan support this bill has received is truly heartening and reflects the reality of breast cancer's reach—it knows no boundaries, no economic distinctions nor political parties,” says BCRF President Myra Biblowit.
The bill aims to issue 50,000 $5 gold coins, up to 400,000 $1 silver coins and 750,000 half-dollar coins to be offered beginning in 2018.
