Earlier this spring we gathered around Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney at BCRF’s headquarters as she announced the signing of the Breast Cancer Commemorative Coin Bill into law by President Obama. The Breast Cancer Commemorative Coin, to be sold by the U.S. Mint in 2018, is the first pink-gold coin ever produced by the Mint and will benefit BCRF, potentially raising well over $8 million to fund lifesaving research.
Pictured above, Congresswoman Maloney was joined by BCRF Honorary Chairman Leonard Lauder, President Myra Biblowit, Scientific Director Larry Norton and breast cancer survivors Nicole Seagriff and Roz Goldstein.
Today, the U.S. Mint is launching a public competition to design the Breast Cancer Commemorative Coin. During Phase One of the competition, which will be open from August 1 – October 17, 2016, artists are encouraged to submit their contact information and three to five work samples using the online form.
Up to 20 applicants from Phase One will be selected to participate in Phase Two, where they will create and submit designs and/or plasters for the final coin.
Ultimately one design winner will be named by the Secretary of the Treasury in spring of 2017. The winner will receive $10,000 and their initials will appear on the coins.
It provides an incredibly unique opportunity for an artist to have his or her work memorialized by a limited edition, U.S. commemorative coin. Make a lasting imprint while funding lifesaving research. Enter the competition.
