Lifetime Launches 2021 Campaign in Support of BCRF Featuring Shannen Doherty, Kelly Hu

By BCRF | October 6, 2021

To mark its partnership with BCRF, the television network will debut a new feature film, special content directed by breast cancer thriver Shannen Doherty, and much more

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BCRF’s longtime partner Lifetime has launched its 2021 Stop Breast Cancer for Life public service initiative with an incredible lineup of informative and inspiring content to promote lifesaving cancer research, encourage breast health, and honor those impacted by the disease.

The centerpiece of this year’s initiative is the film List of a Lifetime, starring Kelly Hu, Sylvia Kwan, and metastatic breast cancer thriver Shannen Doherty. Doherty, who revealed her own metastatic breast cancer diagnosis last September, also directed special content in support of BCRF that Lifetime debuted on October 1 and will run all month long on Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network. The video features Doherty, Kwan, Patricia Velasquez, and Hu, whose own mother, grandmother, and aunt were all treated for breast cancer.

To further support Lifetime’s commitment to research, A&E Networks has donated $250,000 to fund a new Lifetime Award through BCRF. Dr. Hedvig Hricak, a BCRF investigator since 2004, will receive this award in 2021-22.

List of a Lifetime will debut on Lifetime on Sunday, October 10 at 8 p.m. EST. The film follows Brenda Lee (Hu), whose triple-negative breast cancer diagnosis moves her to find and reconnect with Talia (Kwan), the daughter she surrendered for adoption. Talia persuades Brenda to create bucket list, and the two grow closer as they check off items without Talia’s adoptive mom, Diana (Doherty), knowing. Patricia Velasquez, Jane Sibbett, Jamie Kaler, Jim Klock, and Chad Lindberg also star.

An after show following the film, Beyond the List with Shannen Doherty, will also air and feature conversations with Doherty and the cast, and interviews with breast oncologists including BCRF investigator Dr. Elisa Port.

Lifetime’s initiative additionally features a new PSA from First Lady Jill Biden, who has advocated for breast cancer research, early detection, and prevention for over two decades. In this PSA, which will air on Lifetime and the network’s social media channels, Dr. Biden encourages women to put their breast health at the top of their to-do lists.

“Lifetime is making a tangible impact on advancing research,” said BCRF President and CEO Myra Biblowit. “By using their platform to amplify evidence-based research and education, they are undoubtedly helping to empower women with critical knowledge.”

Lifetime will also share stories about breast cancer survivors and provide expert-vetted information about the disease on MyLifetime.com.

“Lifetime’s Stop Breast Cancer for Life initiative is deeply personal for so many women and their families who have been affected by breast cancer,” said A&E Networks Group President and Chairman Paul Buccieri. “We are dedicated to using our platforms and partnerships to raise awareness, encourage women to get their mammograms, and mobilize support for research so that together we can eradicate breast cancer for future generations.”
